What Blood Bank Inventory & Safety is for, who uses it, what you need before you start, and your first steps.
Applies to Blood Bank Inventory & Safety as it works today. Moraph updates the platform continuously, and this page is reviewed when it changes.
Blood Bank Inventory & Safety gives the transfusion service one view of blood product inventory, crossmatch and issue activity, storage temperatures and transfusion reactions across every location that holds blood. It works alongside your FDA-cleared blood bank system, which stays the place where compatibility is decided and products are released. Every excursion, reaction and investigation keeps its evidence and sign-offs, ready for inspectors and accreditation assessors.
What it is for
Most transfusion services track inventory in the blood bank system, refrigerator temperatures on chart recorders or a separate monitoring tool, and transfusion reactions on paper forms that travel from the bedside to the lab. Satellite refrigerators in surgery and emergency departments add storage locations that are hard to see from the lab. When a reaction is reported late, a temperature alarm goes unanswered, or a product's chain of custody has a gap, the evidence an inspector asks for has to be reconstructed from several records.
- Inventory, crossmatched units and expiring products are hard to see across locations
- Temperature excursions and their dispositions are recorded on separate logs
- Transfusion reaction reports arrive late or incomplete from clinical areas
- Investigations, deviation reports and medical director reviews are tracked by hand
