Service states

StateMeaning
OperationalWorking normally.
Degraded performanceWorking, but slow or with some requests failing.
Partial outagePart of the service isn’t working, or it isn’t working for some people.
Major outageThe service isn’t working.
Under maintenancePlanned work is in progress.
No data yetA service that is checked automatically hasn’t been checked yet.

A state is never shown by color alone: the name is always next to it.

How automated checks set the state

For services checked automatically:

  • 2 failed checks in a row: Partial outage.
  • 5 failed checks in a row: Major outage.
  • 3 slow checks in a row (a good answer that took over 3 seconds): Degraded performance.
  • 3 good checks in a row: back to Operational.

Moraph Global Resilience Operations (Operations for short) can set a state by hand, which takes precedence; the service then says Reported by Operations (overrides automated monitoring). Lifecycle stages (Investigating, Identified, Monitoring, Resolved) are shown in neutral colors; only impact uses the severity colors. An open incident raises the services it affects to its impact.

Incident stages

StageMeaning
InvestigatingWe’re looking into the cause.
IdentifiedWe know the cause and are working on a fix.
MonitoringA fix is in place and we’re watching the results.
ResolvedThe incident is over.

Each incident has a reference such as INC-4K7QPD and its own page with every update, newest first. Updates can go back a stage, for example from Monitoring to Identified if a fix doesn’t hold.

When an incident is resolved, its page adds a Resolution with how long it lasted, and may link to a post-incident review.

Impact

Each incident has an impact: Degraded performance, Partial outage or Major outage. It can change as Moraph learns more.

Maintenance stages

StageMeaning
ScheduledPlanned, with a window and the services it may affect.
In progressThe work has started. Affected services show Under maintenance.
CompletedThe work is finished and services are running normally.
CancelledThe work won’t happen as planned.

Maintenance windows have references such as MNT-8R2XWN.
